Origin and nature of the Mexican Health Foundation
(Spanish acronym FUNSALUD)

Organization and operation

FUNSALUD’s institutional activities are based on the commitment of our members (private individuals and companies) and their dedication to the institution’s social mission. The work started by 76 founding members has been complemented by 109 active and 29 institutional members. Also, FUNSALUD, by decision of the General Members’ Meeting, is further enriched by its honorary members – presently eight in number – appointed by virtue of their contributions to healthcare, philanthropy, and the institution. The role of FUNSALUD’s membership has boosted institutional progress by allocating funds, contributing time and experience, and facilitating relations with the private sector and with government authorities. The talent and entrepreneurial vision of FUNSALUD’s members shape the institution’s management, administration, organization, and operation.

Members also serve on FUNSALUD’s organizational bodies: the General Members’ Meeting; the Board of Directors, elected for two year periods; and the Steering Committee, which are in charge of application and follow up on decisions. On the other hand, the Chairman of the Board has two bodies that provide advice and assistance: the Former Chairmen’s Counsel and the International Advisory Group, which oversees FUNSALUD’s international activities.

Since its founding, FUNSALUD’s basic approach has been to employ a minimum of highly qualified personnel under the orders of the Executive Presidency, which includes a Chief Executive Officer, a General Coordinator, two directors, and three coordinators for implementation and follow up on its ongoing programs. To ensure efficacy in the institution’s projects which, moreover, are supported by a portfolio of consultants and professional personnel contracted for specific missions, the Technical Advisory Board, formed by ten prominent Mexican scientists and professionals in the field of healthcare, assists the Executive Presidency in assessing programs, projects, and proposals
