The
Nestle Fund for Nutrition, alongside with the Mexican Association
of Medicine Faculties and Schools have developed for several
years different activities to promote nutrition teaching at
medicine faculties and schools in Mexico. |
The
organization of a Ciclo de Seminarios, dealing with medical "nutriology",
is one of these activities. The purpose of the seminaries is to divulge
medical "nutriology" topics that can be of interest to general
medics, with an emphasis on training teachers at medicine schools.
The seminaries have thrown out positive results as regards assistance
and dissemination of the presented knowledge. Their success is due
to a combination of factors: on the one hand there's the close relationship
between the interests in Nutriology and the interests in medical specialties,
thanks to a joint organization with the respective Medical Associations,
and on the other hand, the dissemination made possible by the divulging
bodies of each society.
The
financial and logistic support is supplied by the NNF alongside with
Nestle Mexico S.A. de C.V.
The
first seminary took place on November 15, 1997, with the cooperation
of the Mexican Academy of Pediatrics. The main topic was on Starches
and Saccharides in infant nutrition. The topic was selected because
of its special importance in the dietetic management of children during
the lactation and weaning stages, as well as during pre-school stage.
The Mexican Academy of Pediatrics invited as lecturers members of
its corporation specialized on the topic, as well as other specialists
dealing with food technology and the dietetic aspects of the topic.
